Chapter 1: Christmas Eve Surprise
It was a cold Christmas eve afternoon. Rose Weasley was sitting in the backseat of his father’s car, looking at the snow falling. She was deep in thought. But she couldn’t think any further, because his brother, Hugo Weasley interrupted her thoughts by asking their mother the question Rose had been longing to ask.
“Mum?” asked Hugo.
“Yes, Hugo, dear?” replied Hermione Weasley, while she was reading in the front seat.
“Why do we have to leave so early? The Christmas Eve dinner starts until 5o’clock!” he said.
“Your father promised your grandma that we would help with the decorations.” She answered, not looking up from her book.
Both Hugo and Rose started protesting. Ronald Weasley looked up from the road and raised a hand. Both children got quiet at once.
“Look at the bright side, kids! Maybe this year Uncle George will let you throw the fireworks!” he said, grinning.
Hugo laughed and stayed the whole trip bouncing with excitement, but Rose just smiled half-heartedly and continued looking at the window.
“Ron, I don’t think it’s a good idea. You know George, it might be dangerous.” Said Hermione anxiously.
“Hark, look who’s talking about kids doing dangerous stuff! What did you do when you were 12 and 14 years old, Herms?” said Ron laughing
Hermione just rolled her eyes and continued reading. Ron looked at Rose through the rearview and saw her sad and thoughtful face. Concerned, he asked: “Feeling okay, Rosie?”
Rose looked up alarmed and said, with a forced smile: “Perfectly, why?”
“I dunno, you seem a little down..” he replied.
“I’m fine, Dad.” Said Rose reassuringly
They spent the rest of the trip in slience until they finally got to the Burrow. They got down of the car and knocked the front door. A plump, old woman answered and smiled as she saw her two grandchildren, her son and her daughter-in-law.
“Rose, Hugo, dears! How are you?” she asked.
Both Hugo and Rose hugged her and replied: “Fine, thank you.”
Mrs. Weasley looked up at his son and said: ‘’Ronald, you’re an adult now and you’re STILL growing!” she laughed and hugged him and Hermione too.
“How’re you, Hermione, dear?” she asked as she let go of Hermione.
“I’m great, Mrs. Weasley, thank you.” She answered politely.
“Well, c’mon, let’s go to the garden. Arthur’s waiting there.” Said Mrs, Weasley excitedly and they all got out of the living room to the garden.
They spent the last 2 hours helping with decorations, catching the remaining gnomes in the garden (a job Rose didn’t like at all) and helping with the food.
At 5 pm. The 6 of them were waiting for the family to come. In the last 15 minutes, people started to pour in. Bill and Fleur Weasley with 20 years old Victoire, 18 years old Dominique, and 16 years old Louis. Charlie and Summer Weasley with their only child, 20 years old Summer. Percy and Audrey Weasley with 15 years old Molly and 13 years old Lucy. George and Angelina Weasley with 20 years old Roxanne and 18 years old Fred . And finally Harry and Ginny Potter with 22 years old Teddy Lupin, 15 years old James, 14 years old Albus and 12 years old Lily. And, after all the family were in the house, it was an outpouring of noise. The crowd of people were divided in two groups, adults and childs.
Rose sat down at a sofa in the living room and took out her book. All of her cousins seemed too busy to talk. Suddenly someone tapped her shoulder, she looked up and saw Albus looking down at her, he wasn’t smiling.
“What’s up?” said Rose, smiling and putting down her book.
“We need to talk, Rose.” He said seriously.
Rose frowned.
“Alright, sit down Albus.” She said making him space.
Albus sat down and looked at her.
“Rose, I watched you last Friday with Malfoy beside the lake.” He said quickly.
“YOU WHAT?!” yelled Rose angrily.
Teddy and Victoire, who were sitting nearby looked at them suspiciously.
“What’s going on?” asked Teddy.
“Nothing!” they both answered hastily.
They both looked at them suspiciously and continued talking.
“You what?!” hissed Rose quietly.
“I wasn’t spying, Rose. I was just walking in the same area and watched you there!” he whispered back.
“How much did you ‘saw’?” asked Rose, raising an eyebrow.
“Nothing, Rose, I swear! You were just talking and I left immediately!”
“You better,” said Rose, relieved. If Albus heard what Scorpius told her..
“And I wanted to warn you, don’t trust him..” he added awkwardly.
“Albus, just because you hate him doesn’t mean…” she started impatiently but he interrupted her.
“It’s not that, Rose! He’s has already cheated girls before and I don’t want you to get hurt!”
“How do I know you’re not making that up?” she asked coldly.
“Ask Molly…” he said simply.
“Molly, our cousin?”
“Nah, Molly our dog…” he said sarcastically.
Rose rolled her eyes and walked towards Molly, who was outside playing Quidditch with James, Louis and Dominique.
But before Rose could yell at her to come down, someone Apparated outside. A tall, black man entered the house. All the crowd fell sllent. It was Kingsley Shacklebolt, Minister of Magic. He looked around and said:
“I need Harry, Ron and Hermione. Urgently.”
