Chapter 2: Ministry Murders

Harry Potter stood up immediately, but Ron and Hermione remained on their seats.
“What do you need, Kingsley?” asked Harry, looking worried.
“I need to talk to you, outside. Also to both of you, Ron, Hermione..” he replied, pointing to the door.
Harry looked at her wife. Ginny nodded. Ron and Hermione stood up too and the three of them followed Kingsley outside. As the door closed, the living room remained silent.
“What was that about?” whispered Albus.
“Don’t know,” answered Rose. “But it can’t be good.”
Teddy Lupin stood up and walked towards Ginny, she whispered something in his ear. He looked at her shocked and whispered something back. She nodded and Teddy walked outside too.
“What was that about?” asked Victoire.
“Teddy’s old enough to know what’s going on..” said Ginny
“We’re 20!” protested Victoire, Roxanne and Summer at the same time.
“We’re of age!!” shouted Fred and Dominique.
“Kids, calm down. Just continue what you were doing. It’s n-nothing personal..” said Ginny sternly. But something in her tone made it clearly to Rose that it WAS personal.
Reluctantly, most of the kids went outside, grumbling at their aunt. But Rose and Albus remained there.
“Rosie, Al, dears, why don’t you go outside with your cousins?” said Ginny.
“We want to stay.” Said Albus simply.
“But…” started Ginny, but Rose cut her off.
“Not to know what’s going on, Auntie, we just don’t wanna go outside. I-It’s to cold.” She said, as politely as possible.
Ginny was about to protest but Fleur said:
“Let them stay here, Gin’. They just want to know if Harry, Ron and Hermione will be okay..”
Ginny grumbled something that sounded like: “Alright..”
Rose and Albus sat down where they were sitting earlier and wouldn’t stop looking at the door. Half an hour later, it opened again, and the three people they had been waiting for entered, shivering and covered in snow. Mrs. Weasley stood up immediately and went to the kitchen to make three cups of hot chocolate. Ginny stood up at once and beckoned them to her old bedroom. Rose looked at her father, questioningly. Ron glanced at her and whispered something to her wife. Hermione looked too at her daughter staring at them and nodded at him. He smiled at her and walked to the not-so-little ginger girl sitting at the couch.
“What’s wrong?” asked Rose at once.
Ron shook his head and crouched in front of her.
“Look, your Uncle Harry doesn’t want me to tell you this but I find it extremely important so you can be on your guard..” he whispered quickly.
Rose frowned. This couldn’t be good.
“Where’s Albus?” he asked suddenly. “Oh, I know..” he added, suddenly smiling again.
He stood up and mockingly started looking in the couch as he whispered: “Albus Potter, I know you’re behind that couch, get out NOW..”
Albus Potter reluctantly stood up, looking guilty. Ron just laughed and beckoned him to go where his parents and aunt where. He looked at him, surprised. Ron just nodded, still grinning. He smiled up at him and ran to her mother’s old bedroom.
“HEY!” protested Rose. Ron smiled and offered her a hand. She looked at it, confused. Ron nodded towards the door where Albus has just entered. She laughed and took it and both of them walked towards it.
They entered and found Harry hugging his son and Ginny sitting at her bed, hands on her face. Hermione was patting her on the back and as soon as she saw her husband and daughter entering she shouted: “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, RONALD WEASLEY!” Harry and Ginny both looked up, both glaring at him.
“She ought to know,” he said, now serious. Hermione shook her head and sighed. Ginny sighed too and covered her face again. Harry let go of his son, who walked towards his mother. Harry walked towards his brother-in-law and crossed his arms, shaking his head.
“You never, EVER, listen what I say, do you?” he said. He seemed to be angry but there was an amused tone in his voice.
“No.” said Ron simply.
Harry smiled bitterly.
“Tell her, then..” he said, turning and walking towards his wife too.
“What is going on?!” said Rose impatiently, but also dreading the answer.
Ron crouched in front of her again and said:
“Since you and Albus started your fourth year, there have been a lot of murders inside the ministry….”
“Inside the…..?” she started shockingly but he said:
“Let me finish. What is the most shocking thing of all is that the person who has been killing these people, killed them in their offices….”
Rose’s jaw dropped.
“Yeah, I know, shocking. Well, today there was another murder, just hours ago. Of Neville’s wife, Hannah..”
“What?!”
“Yes. Now, Kingsley has been investigating and he thinks that the person or persons on this have been killing person and person until getting to the Auror Office …”
“But you work there!”
“I know, but I’m not the only one in danger. Also Kingsley noticed that the persons killed are the ones that are really close to one particular Auror… The person who has been killing has been killing this auror’s friends and now they’re getting more into really close friends, then… Kingsley thinks… they’ll get to his family.. and finally to him.”
“Who are you talking about? What Auror?”
“Harry Potter.”
Chapter 3: Back to Hogwarts
The rest of the Christmas Eve dinner went really uneventful. Everyone kept staring at Harry every other minute. They had told all the family about it. Except Hugo, Lily and Lucy. Rose and Albus were tactful enough not to metion them about it. They were quite worried themselves. That night, even though it was Christmas, Rose couldn’t sleep well. And some voices upstairs told her that their parents were arguing again. They always argue, about nonsense things. But this time, this argument broke Rose’s heart..
Three weeks later, they had to return to Hogwarts. The trip to King Cross was pretty awkward. Clearly Ron and Hermione weren’t talking to each other.. AGAIN.
They finally arrived, 15 minutes early to the station. Ron and Hugo crossed the barrier first, leaving Rose and Hermione. Rose was getting ready to pass the barrier, when her mother took her shoulder.
“Rosie?” she said.
Rose turned around and saw her mother’s eyes puffy.
“Yes, Mum?” she replied.
“Promise me that you’ll look after yourself and your brother..” she said, anxiously.
Rose nodded.
“Don’t worry, Mum. But you promise me that you’ll make up with Dad. I can’t bear watching you like this..” she burst out.
Hermione sighed and said:
“I’ll do my best, Rosie..” and she smiled. Rose took her hand and together they passed through the barrier.
Ron and Hugo were waiting for them there.
“Bye, Dad..” said Rose, hugging him.
“Take care, Rosie. And look after your brother, alright?” he said, kissing her forehead.
“Sure..” she said.
“You’ve got everything ready, then?” asked Hermione. Ron placed an arm around her. Rose smiled.
“All ready to go..” she answered. She hugged one last time her parents, took Hugo’s hand and boarded the train. They stared at the nearest window and waved at their parents as the train started to move. They waved one last time and their parents were out of sight. They were going back to Hogwarts.
“Where’s Albus?” asked Rose, as she and her brother got away from the window.
“Probably looking for a compartment. See you, Rosie.” Replied Hugo, hugging her and running towards his friends.
“Take care!” said Rose, smiling at him.
She continued walking until she finally saw one of her best friends’ face.
“Abigail!” she exclaimed, running at her.
Abigail Montgomery turned around and beamed as Rose ran toward her. They hugged and continued walking together.
“How were your holidays?” asked Rose.
“Pretty uneventful. Same as always. Another sweater from Grandma and Dad letting the fireworks go in the wrong place. Another cousin burned..” she said, laughing. “You?”
“The opposite, Abby..” she sighed. And she told Abigail all that happened on Christmas Eve.
Abigail sighed.
“Yeah, I heard Mum and Dad talking about it.” She said sadly.
The kept looking in silence until they found an empty compartment. They entered and sat down.
The trip to Hogwarts was surprisingly short. Albus appeared 30 minutes after Rose and Abigail had sat down. They played Exploding Snap, ate sweets from the trolley and also took short naps and before they knew, they were getting to Hogsmeade station. They changed themselves in their school robes and started to get out with the crowd of students. As soon as Rose touched ground she felt the cool breeze on her face and the smell of the lake nearby. They were, indeed,  back at Hogwarts.
Rose, Abigail and Albus took the first carriage they saw. A blonde guy was sitting there reading a magazine.
“Hey Lysander!” said Albus sitting beside him.
Lysander Scamander looked up, revealing his big gray eyes.
“Hi! Had a good holiday?” he said smiling.
“Let’s just say it was a pretty different holiday, Lysander..” said Rose sitting with Abigail in front of them.
“Where’s your brother?” asked Abigail.
“Um, probably took another carriage.” He answered frowning and looking around.
“What are you reading?” asked Albus.
“Oh, Mum’s magazine. You know, ‘The Quibbler’” he answered.
“Oh, yeah..” said Rose, smiling.
They spent the rest of the trip in silence. Rose looked up and saw the castle. It looked as gorgeous and big as always. But, now that Rose knew in what situation her family was, it also gave a safety feeling. She smiled even more broadly.
They got to the front doors of the Hogwarts Castle. Rose jumped out of it and took out her trunk. Abigail, Albus and Lysander came after her.
“Well, see you, guys!” she told Albus and Lysander, who were heading to the Slytherin dungeons.
“Bye, Rose!” They both said, and they disappeared out of view. Rose and Abigail walked up all the way to Ravenclaw Tower. They knocked on with eagle knob. The bird open its mouth and said: “Name one of the 5 exceptions to Gamp’s Law of Elemental Tranfiguration.”
Abigail looked at Rose questioningly. Rose smiled. She knew this answer really well.
“Food.”
“Correct.” Said the bird, and the door opened.
“My mum tells my dad that at least 4 times a day..” said Rose, grinning.
She was about to enter the Ravenclaw common room when a voice sounded behind Rose.
“Hey, sweetheart. Had a nice holiday?” it said.
That voice made Rose’s heart leapt and at the same time made her chest to bubble up with anger. She turned around.
The blue eyes met the brown ones. A big smiled spread across his face. Scorpius Malfoy.

 Chapter 4: Scorpius Malfoy
Abigail looked suspiciously at the pair of them.
“Go, Abby, I’ll catch you up later..” said Rose, smiling up at her.
“Are you sure?” she said, smirking.
Rose rolled her eyes.
“Go!” she said, laughing.
Abigail stuck out her tongue playfully and ran upstairs.
Rose turned and walked towards him. He hugged her.
“Heard what happened on Christmas Eve. You feeling okay?” he asked kindly.
“Better than three weeks ago, I guess.” She replied, laughing.
“Wanna go and walk around the lake? I had some eventful holidays too and I want to talk about it.” Said Scorpius, taking her hand.
Rose looked at the clock. It was 6 o’clock. They still could be out of their dormitory.
“Sure!” she said excitedly. They ran and went out to the school grounds. There were still a group of students there, fooling around. They walked silently all the way to the lake and sat down. Scorpius took two sweets from his pocket. Smiling, Rose took one.
“So what happened?” asked Rose.
“Remember I told you about Kenton?” he said, not looking at her but at the lake.
“Yeah. He’s brother, right?” she replied.
“Yes. Well, He had a quarrel with Dad, Wasn’t pretty to watch.”
“Oh, really?”
“Yeah. He left the house and everything.”
“Oh. I’m so sorry, Scorpius.” Said Rose, placing her hand above his.
He sighed.
“Yeah. But I always knew one day it would happen. He talks to me twice a year so, I don’t feel like his my brother, anyway.”
Rose looked at him. She wanted to cheer him up. So she stood up, grinning and offered him a hand. Frowning he took it and stood up too.
“What’s up, Rosie?” he asked, confused.
“You told me last time we met that you would teach me how to throw stones at the lake and make them bounce!” she replied, grabbing a stone from the floor and beaming.
Scorpius grinned. He grabbed another stone and said:
“Alright. The first thing you need to do is crouch,” he crouched and Rose imitated him, “Good! Then, move your arm to the back this length,” he threw his arm back and Rose did the same, “ and now just throw it with all your might.” And he threw it. It bounced thrice. Rose looked at him and said: “My arm’s quite weak, you know. Can you help me, please..”
Scorpius laughed and grabbed Rose’s arm. But when he was about to throw it, Rose let go of him and threw him to the ground.
“Gotcha!” she said, laughing her head off.
Scorpius laughed too and said: “You’re SO gonna pay for this, Rose Weasley!” He stood up and Rose ran like crazy out of his reach, still laughing. They continued to chase each other and fool around for the next hour. They had so much fun that they didn’t notice the minutes passing. It was 7 o’clock by the time they calmed down and sat down again, still chuckling. Rose placed her head on Scorpius shoulder and sighed.
“I never even noticed how beautiful this place is. And I’ve been coming here for 4 years in a row.” She said.
“You know, I’ve always said that a beautiful moment and a beautiful girl can make a beautiful place even more gorgeous..” said Scorpius.
Rose looked up at him and smiled.
“That’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard a guy say.”
“Yeah, um, please don’t tell Sam about it..” he said, talking about his best friend Sam Thomas.
Rose laughed.
“Yeah maybe…”
Scorpius suddenly gasped and said:
“Oh, I forgot! I’ve got your Christmas present here..”
He opened his school bag and took out a small wrapped package. He placed it in Rose’s lap.
“Oh, Scorpius, that’s so sweet.” Said Rose, beaming. Then she punched his shoulder.
“Ow, what was that for?!” said Scorpius half laughing.
“You just made me feel bad. I don’t have anything for you!” said Rose.
“Your presence is enough, Rosie..”
“Ugh, now you made me feel worse, shut up ,please..”
Scorpius laughed and said:
“Open it!”
Rose ripped gently the package and found a box. She opened the lid and gasped.
A necklace was elegantly place inside the box. It was silver and had a small heart-shaped pendant.
“Oh my goodness, Scorpius, it’s beautiful.!”
“Told you. A beautiful girl, a beautiful moment, a beautiful place a beautiful thing..”
Rose laughed.
“Can you help me put it on?” she asked.
“Sure,” said Scorpius. He kneeled behind Rose and placed the necklace on her neck.
Rose took the pendant on her hand and smiled up at Scorpius. Itwa, probably, the best Christmas gift she had. She then saw that there was something engraved on the heart. She looked carefully and read: “Only Girl I Care About”
Somehow this brought Albus’s warning to her mind and the question that had been in her mind for quite a long time, burst out:
“Scorpius, do you know my cousin Molly?”
Scorpius sat down beside her and looked down at her.
“Yeah, she’s on her 5th year, right? Saw her a c-couple of times..” he said
Something on his tone told Rose that that wasn’t true.
“Scorpius, please, I beg you, tell me the truth..” she said.
Scorpius was looking rather alarmed now.
“i-I gotta go, Rosie.” He said standing up at once.
“Why?” she asked suspiciously, standing up too.
“I don’t want to get in trouble.”
“Scorpius, it’s 7 o’clock.”
“Well, I just need to rest, Rose. See you tomorrow in class.” He said, giving her a rather hasty kiss on the cheek and he ran off.
And Rose was left alone, beside the lake, clutching the pendant.
